Master of Education in Instructional Leadership
Overview
In response to the positive reaction HPU experienced with its undergraduate teacher preparation program, Howard Payne University is offering a Master of Education in Instructional Leadership completely online. Students that graduate from the program will be prepared to fill positions as certified principal in the State of Texas.
*Out-of-state graduate candidates must verify certification requirements and credit transfer reciprocity in their respective state where they seek certification.

Curriculum
The course curriculum is aligned with the State standards for principal certification and provides students with an appropriate balanced combination of theory and practical application. The 36 hour, non-thesis degree is delivered 100% online and is designed to give students the flexibility to complete the degree without interrupting their daily routine and personal, social and professional responsibilities.
Internship Requirement
The Master of Education in Instructional Leadership culminates with an intership to fulfill state requirements for principal certification. Graduate students can earn internship credits in the school district where they are active, to allow for increased convenience and eficiency.

Industry Statistics
According to a 2002 survey conducted by the National Association of Elementary School Principals, 66 percent (66%) of principals planned to retire in the next 6 to 10 years. Additionally, a survey of teachers and administrators in Texas indicated a need for a master’s degree program leading to principal certification.
